Men's Walking Group

A testy 5Km trek for the 10 of us around Stony Hill Park.  A great new walk for the group suggested by Derek with fantastic ocean views, a great lunch at the Genoa Bay Café with an interesting and informative finish at the Historic Old Mill house.  Too many photos to publish them all.  Map and photos below.  --  DeNNis

Took Stoney Hill Rd from Genoa Bay Rd as shown.  Red circled area are viewpoints.

Off we go.  Nice trail for parts of the walk.
Some ups and downs and narrow areas.

Why they call Vancouver Island the "Rock".

Lots of wonderful views.

Spotted in the garden of the old Mill House.

This square grand piano is in the old Mill house -

- along with many antiques too numerous to mention.

Interesting story on why/how this boat hull is on the ceiling?

Nice sunny day.  Perfect for Eclipse watching.  A bit of a disappointment though - not what we expected.  Good walk anyway with good company.  Photos of our walk below.  --  DeNNis.

Parked cars where Galloping Goose trail crosses Renfrew Rd (top left).  Walked 3 to 4 Km down trail then up logging road a bit to view eclipse (bottom right).  Found eclipse to be somewhat disappointing.  Expected more darkness but mostly just noticed a drop in temperature.

Down the trail - lots of blue sky.

"What's all the fuss up on the
trail ?"

Not much in flowers.

Thistles gone to seed.

What ever this is it certainly adds some colour.

Obviously the site of a deer conference.

Big fishing catch??

Tall trees??

Or???

What's left of the rotted tree
stump in the background.

Ken checking the progress of the eclipse through his welding
goggles.  They worked reasonably well for viewing.

What is Larrys comment?

Shadows on the trail.

More shadows.

Men's Walking Group

Good hiking weather today.  A little cooler but no rain in sight.  We ventured out to the Kinsol Trestle today and up the Koksilah River a little ways before swinging back down another trail back to the Galloping Goose.  Here are my pics from today plus 3 from the archives. -- DeNNis.

The 11 of us trekked 7Km around the Kinsol trestle and Koksilah river trail. Next walk will be during the Solar Eclipse, looking for a open trail, not in the trees. -- Brook

Parked at Kinsol trestle parking lot (right), walked up trail across trestle and down under to trail along Koksilah river as explained above.  Stopped on the way home to check out Shawnigan Pavilion progress before coffee at Shawnigan Coffee House.

Focus not good - but you get the message.

On to the Kinsol Trestle.
