Men's Walking Group

A very warm day, but if we walk fast we can create a draft - maybe!  Anyway, eight of us had a nice stroll from behind Tim Hortons, across the old Stone Bridge, down across the highway to Church Way and back.  A good 7 Km.  --  DeNNis.
Parked on Deloume Rd behind Tim Hortons.  Follow the dotted trace in a clockwise loop from
the cars.

The old Stone Bridge (looking into the sun).

The blackberries were still a little tart.

Back onto Shawnigan-Mill Bay Rd at Barry Rd.

Busy Bee.

Wild flowers up by Kelsey School grounds.

Palm trees at Sunset Maples (Brulette Place)
Followed the fence around the complex.

Time for a rest stop at the top of Hayden Rd.

Looking up Hayden Rd from Horton Rd.

Found some shade on Church Way.

And the last of the California Poppies.

Checking out the new Veggie market on Church Way.

Photography Group

Our Cameras and/or Cell Phones have become so automatic that we have become lazy. The pictures turn out sharp and clear and the colours are beautiful, so why shouldn't we just shoot away without a thought what the camera is doing for you.
Sometimes, you the photographer needs to be in control and to be able to do that, one needs to practice with all settings set to Manual.
Below are some of my results from this morning with full manual settings.

This bee waited patiently for me to set up my camera to Manual.

This reminded me of the hot sun beating down on me.

I liked the glow in the center of this Day Lilly.

These Bees did not want to pose and flitted all over.

Here are a few pictures of us tracking.

Going into the jungle that is behind the Shawnigan Lake School.
We dared to walk the "Border Line Trail".

Slogging through the jungle!

The very picturesque pond behind the Shawnigan Lake School.

A warm day for an 8Km hike from the Legion to the Shawnigan School grounds.  Stopped at the Shawnigan House for refreshments on way back to the Legion parking.

Started at the Legion on the right, walked to the Shawnigan School Trails on the top left.

A nice day for a 7Km walk from the Legion down Haul Road.  Last stop at the Shawnigan House for coffee.  Sorry, no photos as our resident photographer was on vacation.

Started to the left from the Legion to the end of Haul Road at Shawnigan Creek, then back to the end of the Road circling back to the Legion.

Off to Ladysmith today for a jaunt along the waterfront and through Transfer Beach.  Seven of us enjoyed the weather, walk and lunch afterwards.  Map and photos below.  --  DeNNis.

Parked by the Fox & Hounds Pub (lower middle) and did a clockwise loop starting down First Ave and finishing with lunch at the Pub.

An old '30s Caterpillar tractor used to pull logs.

This is a more modern "Something"
which we know nothing about..

"Diamond Rail Switch" used to switch the log trains across
the E&N Railway Line.

Another relic of the '20s and 30's.  An old Fordson Tractor
used in the logging industry.

Had to look a long way up to see this Canadian flag.

Another old vehicle - use undetermined.

There are always ups and downs on these walks.

Along the now unused E&N tracks between the highway and
the water.

Where we found an old tow boat from bygone days.

Onto the Ladysmith Marina.

Buccaneer Brook says "Go thataway".

Looking over towards the sawmill area.

Inukshuks on the  beach.

This trail is part of the
Trans Canada Trail.

I am told the two trees to the right are Linden trees.

Panoramic shot from Transfer Beach.

The Transfer Beach Amphitheater.

A portion of the beach area.

There is light - at both ends of the tunnel.

What better place to stop and regenerate?
