Men's Walking Group

Eleven of us walked today about 8 Km in the misty weather around the Cobble Hill area before meeting five others for lunch at the Cobblestone Pub.  A merry time was had by all.  Map and photos below.  --  DeNNis.

Parked in the lot by the Off-leash dog park in Cobble Hill.  Did a wiggly clockwise loop around the Cobble Hill area before stopping at the Cobble Hill Pub for lunch then back to the cars.

The first thing we saw was this
bear warning sign at the dog park.

Looking over the E&N tracks to Coble Hill Village.

We thought we should walk on the horse riding trail
alongside Cobble Hill Road - but had to watch where we stepped.

The horses at Alpine Stables were happy to get the carrots and apples.

There were a few of these old carriage
wheels around the fenced area.

Brook had lots of goodies.

Something white stuck in the spokes of this wheel.

Guess what -- another of those
mysterious rocks!!

Of course the guys across the street were curious as to what
was going on.

From Alpine Stables we took another short trail down to
the playground area --

--  where Ed showed us how to use the
"chin-up" rings.

Had to get a shot of some of the area decorations.

Then down through the Ecole Cobble Hill grounds.

Through the "Enchanted Forest".

Where some trees grow funny.

And look like they are about to close
you in.

Used to take pictures of this stick fence years ago.  Now
it looks like it is ready to fall apart.

More tree decorations.

Enjoying what is left of the green grass.

Tropical looking yard, but the weather is not tropical.

Looks like a "Biker Neighborhood".

Trespassing on a path that is closed due to some work being
done --  but almost at the Pub.

At last  --  We can almost smell lunch.

So many of us there, had to take pictures from both ends of
the table.

The weather held for us once again.  A great day for a walk overlooking Mill Bay waterfront.  Eleven of us did about 8 Km along Partridge, Seaview, Bay, Noowick  and Frayne roads before heading back to Tim Hortons for our beveridge break.  Map and photos below.  -  DeNNis.

Parked by Tim Hortons.  Across the Highway, through Mill Bay Center to Mill Bay Road.  Up Partridge to the path over to Seaview, then down Bay to Mill Bay Rd in a clockwise loop back along Huckleberry, Nooowick and Ligget to Partridge Rd where we retraced our route back to Deloume Rd and up to Tim Hortons.

Looking up Partridge Road from Mill Bay Rd.

Had to stop and investigate something along Partridge Rd.

Onto the path over to Seaview Rd.

Mt. Baker in Washington state is barely visible under the
black overcast.

No, they are not real.  But the only critters we saw other than
a dog or two on a leash.

Must be recycle day on Noowick road.

Newly cleared property on the corner of Noowick and Ligget
roads being readied for development??

But look at the view they will get when the weather is clear.

Imagine the chicken crossing the road to get to the other side.

Does that sign mean you can't sit and enjoy the view from here??

The payphone booth at Deer Park Lodge.

Back along the path from Seaview to Partridge Road.

Just below Thrifty Foods we passed this
telephone pole and looked back.  What
should we see there??

Well  --  there was another of those
mysterious painted rocks!!

Thought we were seeing things, so decided it was time for a coffee.

Nine of us ventured out down behind the Legion for about a 7 Km walk along Bamberton-Haul Road.  The weather was okay for the duration and we finished off with coffee at the Shawnigan Coffee House.  Map and photos below.  --  DeNNis.

Parked at the Legion.  Did a clockwise loop from behind the Legion down  Bamberton-Haul Rd and retraced our path part way back as shown.  Then on down to where the horses were and back to the Legion on a different path.

The sign at the Legion.

Looking over to the Legion from the far side of the clearcut.

Seen in passing.

A bridge over soggy water.

More decorations.

This stump has an ever-changing array of stones with
cute sayings.

Part of some very old "mountain bike challenges."

More of the same.

Quite an interesting trail.

Down under the power-line onto Bamberton-Haul road.

Some of the group just going onto Bamberton-Haul road.

An old teepee frame marks the
spot where we head up to where
there used to be some huge tires.

Up past a couple of the tires.

Ice covering some puddles here.

A strange sight just behind where the old tires lay.  a viewing
platform with some old life vests on a small algae covered pond.
Scared up a few ducks feeding here.

Met this guy along the way. He
made the tool he is carrying
which he uses to make trails.
He has created quite a few of
the trails we use.

"Big Red."

And his buddies.

Brook knew he would like some carrots.

Strange place for this sign.

This Christmas tree has seen better days.
There should be photos of it some where
in the archives.

Shopping for car parts.

Woodpecker restaurant.

What is that down by the left corner post of the Legion entrance??

Well! Bless my soul - another mystery rock.
