An easy 7Km walk for the 5 of us along the shore of Duke Point.  Lunch at the old favorite Crow & Gate Pub.  ---  Brook

A great day for a walk at Duke and Jack Point along the water where it should be a bit cooler.  Too many pics to show them all.  Here is a sampling.  ---  DeNNis.

Parking lot at bottom right.  Through the tunnel to the path.  A couple sets of stairs along the way.
About a 1 Km loop at the end for a good view of the Jack Point light, and back along the water.

The city of Nanaimo across the water.  Notice the tide is in.

This old carving is holding up well.

First set of stairs.

Faux petroglyph.

Mother Nature playing with
the trees.

Lots of neat "waterworks art" in the rocks.

More stairs.

One of the smaller island ferries.

Lovely views - always changing.

Jack Point light.

Duke Point Ferry dock.  The ferry left a few minutes before we
got down to this point.

Down the long staircase on the way back.

Lots of great views.

Notice the tide is going out now.

Huge mushrooms.

Back through the tunnel to the parking lot.

Nothing beats a good lunch at the "Crow and Gate".

Also, it is very well turned out.

What is this plant?

And this one??

This bird???

And these flowers?

The weather warmed up for a pleasant walk around the Mill Bay, Mill Springs and Deer Park vicinities.  Lots of photo ops, especially nature ones.  Map and photos below.  --  DeNNis.

We parked behind Serious Coffee (top right) and did a counter-clockwise loop as shown.  Most of
the street names are readable on the map.  Finished with an enjoyable coffee at Serious Coffee.

Lupines.

California Lilac in full bloom.

Black Locust trees on Partridge Rd.

John H., being from Alberta, always gets excited about snow
of any kind.

He must be frightened - his tail hair is standing on end.

I'll just go a little further up and maybe they won't see me.

Don't move and nobody will notice me.

Different looking fungi growing here.

Big Leaf Maple starting from an old stump.

Foxglove.

White foxglove?

Another Arbutus finding its way through the forest.

Home gas.

California Poppies.

Water wheel at Deer Park - Mill Springs border.
My version of this same water wheel when I lived across
from it about  2004 and it was actually working.
(Can be seen on the Woodcarvers Quilt in the YSAG room.)

John C. on the workout bench.

We walked a few trails at Shawnigan Lake.  Weather was perfect.
We leave the Legion every Monday morning at 9:30.    Everyone is welcome to join us.
See you there.

This little doe kept an eye on us so we didn't pick her daisies.

A field full of daisies.

New sign at one of our walks.

This is why the sign has been put up, so much compost etc.
Guess people didn't want that mess in their own yard.

Ended our walk at Richard M. lovely back yard where he
served us tea and cakes.

Women's Walk  --  Monday, June 12th 2017.

We walked the trails at Cobble Hill again as we wanted to enjoy a lunch at the Cobble Hill Hall.
We were surprised and delighted to have Claudia join us on this walk.  It was a lovely day and an
enjoyable "catch up" walk with Claudia

The Gamboa greenhouses at Fisher Road, what a disaster from
the storm this past winter.  So sad.

A beautiful mock orange tree hanging over a fence.
