Men's Walking Group

Only 4 of us walked the 7Km followed by lunch at the Wheatshief Pub in Cedar.  The rain didn't scare us off.  As a matter of fact we folded the umbrellas about 5 minutes into the walk.  Today was a leisurely stroll along the Duke-Jack Point waterfront and finished with a great pub lunch.  Lots of photo ops.  --  DeNNis.

Started at the parking lot (bottom right), did a clockwise loop around Jack Point (top left) and bak to the parking lot.

First time we have seen this rock carving.

Panoramic view of the sawmill from the trail above.

A bit gray looking across the water to Nanaimo.
The faux petroglyph is still there.

Lots of scenery.  Especially the unique rock formations.

Under the natural archway.

The longest stairway, up and down.

Typical seascape.  Seagull on the rock, Jack Pt light and
BC Ferry in the distance.

Cormorant sitting on
the light.

That BC Ferry just left this dock as we walked past it.

Had to include this shot.

Down we go again.

Gabriola Ferry in the distance?

More unique rock formations.

This old carving near the start of
the walk is showing its age.

Parking lot at the other end of the tunnel.

A little cooler today but no rain which made for another pleasant walk.  Down behind the Legion today, through the bush to the power line trail, then Bamberton Hall Rd and onward as shown on the map below.  --  DeNNis.

Follow the trace from the Legion (bottom) counter-clockwise.  I think it is self explanatory.

Woodpeckers love this tree.  Also
notice the root structure.

Fairies must have been at work here.
Busy fairies obviously.  Captions on many of the rocks.
(Not quite readable in the photo.)

What's left of some old mountain bike
trail work.

On to the power line trail.  Bamberton-Hall Rd runs
alongside the trees on the left.

Always stop to visit what horses are about.

Very large wasps nest.

Up close you can see the artistry.

Took wrong turn - barrier of huge tires.

Fall is in the air.

This guy is usually beside the fence to see
what is up.  Must be enjoying the sunshine.
Another picture of this sign.

A new fence on Devries Rd.

Nice hanging flower
pot along Renfrew Rd.

Guess what is next.

New 6Km walk for 10 of us around Mill Springs trails.  Parked at Serious Coffee on Frayne Road and started down Lodge Pole Road and up Alget Road to the Mill Springs trails.  Ending back at Serious Coffee for refreshments.

Clockwise walk from Serious Coffee around Mill Springs

Great view of Saanich across the Bay from Alget Road.

Another good walk for us guys.  A little warm but the weather is holding out for us.  --  DeNNis.

Parked on Deloume Rd behind Tim Hortons (right).  Did a clockwise route from there.  I think the map shows things pretty well.

The old Stone Bridge.

Kelsey School.

Looking upstream from the bridge on Shawnigan-Mill Bay Rd.
Not much water left in Shawnigan Creek.

Kerry Park Arena.

In case we lose our way.

Looking way up.

Some moss left anyway.

Shawnigan Creek

The tennis courts are busy today.

Old rail fence looking good.

I call this Bridge2 on the map - near Wilkinson Rd.

Why did the turkeys cross the road?

The straggler did it to catch up to the rest.

Elderberries??

Spotted from Wilkinson Road.

Back on the road (highway) again.

A "follow up" photo - literally.
