Nine walked to the Holt Creek Trestle, which is quite a height above the creek.
Then on to a trail to a nice spot on the river. The 90 steps back up slowed us
down some, but it was an enjoyable hike.(thanks for the count,Claudia) We
enjoyed a lunch at the Cowichan Golf Club.We will not be walking next monday

the 9th. Enjoy the sunshine  ............ V.M.     P.S.  Sorry for the delayed start

Womens Walking

On monday we met Joan at St. Francis Xavier church where she was speaking to
the caretaker. He invited us inside to tell us the history of the church and show us
the stained glass windows, plaques, and many pictures. It was very interesting. It is
a beautiful little church. We walked on to the Mill Bay Nature Park where we saw
many recent improvements of the bridges and trails. Then we went on to an ankle
twisting barnacle beach walk for 35 to 40 minutes. We saw quite a few eagles,
jellyfish, but not the trail we wanted.Back to the park and up the two hills in the
blazing sun.Enough was enough --- I had a quick ride in a mercedes and then
seven of us took the Honda mini bus back to the church.I do wish I had taken
a picture of the two who had the "cooler"seats in the back of the bus.
At the beginning of our walk we met two fellows named Denis/Dennis.
We invited them to join us,but they declined saying they wouldn't be able to
keep up with us.( Could have been embarrassing had they joined us )
Next week monday the 19th.we will hike one of the Cowichan River trails,
Trestle 66,and Horseshoe Bend.Bring a lunch and some water.As it is a
longer drive,we may be returning later than usual.Meet at the Legion
at 9:30 a.m. See you there, V.M.

Men's Walking Group

We were a small group today with only four walkers.  Summer activities are cutting into this activity, I guess. We walked at the back of the Legion but it was a different route than usual. By going down into the valley with big trees, we ducked a few fallen trees and then ended up on Wooden Road and on to the Shawnigan/ Cobble Hill Road.  The distance was about 5 km.
We have no pictures of the actual walk, but when Dennis and I came out of the Legion after our coffee, we spotted this big, very impressive moth.  It was sitting right by the door, as if wanting to come in to warm up.

The first shot looks like a Stealth Bomber.  I have no idea what it is.  It had about a 2 to 3 inch wingspan.

log while a noisy crow screeched at us to share our food.We saw many shells,
crabs and a sailing ship that had washed ashore.Next monday the 5th.we will

for our lunch.Meet at the Legion at 9:30 am.
