Computer/Photography group

Hello Computer experts,
Next Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 10:30 we will talk about Malware, questionable sites that get into your computer and how they mess it up.
I will talk about my experience the last few days with Malware and how I managed to tame it. Then, today I find another unwanted program has crawled into my computer. These both are space/activity hogs and my CPU usage is at 100% many times.
My experience: 1) A few days ago my computer became unresponsive for minutes and strange things were happening so that I had to reboot.
2) I noticed my CPU running at 100% for minutes.
3) I ran a number of programs such as CCleaner, Slim Cleaner, Avast had been on all the time and the Firewall was on.
4) I ran Malwarebytes and did a defrag. using Malwarebytes.
5) Malwarebytes found 49 entries of PUP.MyWebSearch. I quarantened these.
6) That and/or the defrag. pretty well solved the problem and I again had a reasonably fast reliable computer.
7) Quiz question: Do any of you know what the PUP stands for? Do a search in Google.
8) I thought my problems were over, but just now, I find I have something else called: zBiddy dot com. I'll explain further at our meeting.
I would include a picture with this but after my hassles with the above, I'm not in the mood.

Hello,
Today we were 8 walkers and had a great sunny morning to go over 10km. according to Dennis's calculation. We started our walk at the Mill Bay Shopping Center, checked out construction progress at the Marina and then proceeded to the Mill Bay ferry. We welcomed one new walker. Hello Mike!
Here are some pictures.

I hear we have a new walker; Welcome to our group Mike. They probable didn't walk as fast as they do when I'm there, So look out next week we'll step it up. ha
Any Ideas for a walk next week ? We will do another local walk and discuss our next walk out of the area, Okay Tks

Computer/Photography grp

Hello All,
The October 16 meeting is a computer session. With that in mind I have attached a newsletter from Ask Leo called, "Why I bought my wife a Mac". Ignoring the condescending tone of that title, it makes for some interesting reading. The full article is found here: http://ask-leo.com/C5885 .
I would like to spend some time at this meeting to discuss how you feel about the content and structure of our meetings. Do we need to make them more formal with a written agenda? What topics are you interested in?
I will raise some more questions at the meeting and I hope you will all also express your ideas.
For the photographers in the group, I see that on Oct. 23, YSAG has planned a trip to the Royal Museum IMAX theatre. Do we want to consider that our field trip?
See you all Tuesday.
Ed
PS: Did this fellow escape from Kansas?
Scarecrow from Wizard of Oz?

Annoncements

Here is a summary of YSAG happenings for the next couple of weeks.

Thank you Helen for providing this information.

Our regular activities of course are ongoing.
