Eight walked the Kerry Park trail. The river is dry in most places except for a few small pools. Many trees have been taken down at the park. We were surprised to see the mess that was left. We then walked up Wilkinson road for a distance, getting back in time for lunch at Cobble Hill hall.Next week the 31st. we will try the Cee and Miep Hof Park trail. The park is near the water at the bottom of Kingscote road. Weather permitting. Leaving the Legion at 9:30 am. VM

Three walkers covered many trails for two and one half hours. (no one with a pedometer) More than half the walk being a mystery trail. We are hoping to get information as to where we were and to whom the property belongs. On the way back we were ready for our lunch and a drink in Shawnigan. Our dessert was of wild plums and blackberries we had picked. Monday the 24th
meet at the Legion at 9:30 am.   VM

The rain held off and 8 had a sunny/shady walk through Hemer Park. Some changes to the park boundries but still many good trails to walk. We watched many geese fly in and land on the lake. Due to the warm, dry summer, there is much algae covering the lake and Water Lilies are all dried up. Most enjoyed their lunch at the restaurant even though it was very busy. Thank you to the drivers. Next monday the 17th we meet at the Legion at 9:30 am. to do a local walk.  VM

Ten hardy souls braved the elements (barely a sprinkle) and hiked a whole 6 Km Monday.  Figured we deserved a coffee at Serious Coffee - Frayne Center  on our successful return.

Parked behind Frayne Center (right-top) - up Benko Rd too far - turned back, followed Bamberton motorized trails - ended up at North-end of Rat Lake - down the west side - then Bambrton Haul Road and down more trails back to Frayne Center.

Bridges over basicly dry creek beds.

Doing the Lily pad count.

Rat Lake panorama.

Rat Lake reflections.

Looks like some Butterfly Bush among the grasses.

I will be away for two or three weeks  --  good time to do the really tough walks.  Enjoy  --  DeNNis.

Again!  --  better late than never.  On Monday-Aug. 3rd,  seven of us took a slightly different route from Gregory Rd in Shawnigan Estates to the Quarry.  Another good day for a walk - not quite as hot and we were in the trees a lot.  Enjoyed our coffee later at Shawnigan Coffee House.  --  DeNNis.

Parked at the end of Gregory Rd (top left) - kept right on the first loop -left on the second loop - clockwise around the  Quarry (lower trail) - left on the first return loop - then right on the last return loop  --  Confused?

Some pretty steep ups and downs along the way.

We arrive at the Quarrys west end.

Panorama from west end of Quarry.

The Geese have their own private surfing board.

Looking up from the Quarrys edge.

This looks like a blade from some large piece of eqipment.

Where did this pebble come from - looks lonesome by itself.

Resting after a tough climb.

The Quarry from above an "alien spaceship landing field."

Recognize this?  YSAG birdhouse kit -
assembled by some young person -
spotted on our walk.
Mother Nature finds
beauty in dead plants.

I followed Robert on a different part of the path -
thought this was a unique bridge.
Right in the middle of the path - amazingly they hadn't been trampled.
