We had a little bit of clouds and a bit of liquid sunshine on our walk today. Four of us did 4k in Mill Springs area {keeping close to Timmies}. We got a little damp but nothing a good cup off coffee and a half hour of maulling over the world affairs in Timmies could'nt look after. nice and dry by that time' Next week maybe we can do Richards Trail, mostly on paved roads and about 9k. The following Monday 26th we can try Swan Lake with lunch out in Victoria,{I seen in the paper that they have done work on new board walks and things. See you next week, Tks

Seven walkers noticed changes in Chemainus and in Echo Hights. We had a pleasant, leisurely walk through the heights. The trails were all new to us so we took time to explore. It is easy walking with very few tree roots through the woods. Four different trails within the boundries that will make a good walk on our next visit. The drive and delays with roadwork in Duncan and Chemainus also shortened our walk as we had a time for lunch at the pub. Thank you to our drivers. Next monday is Thanksgiving Day. Most will not be walking. If anyone wishes to walk, show up at the Legion at 10 am., there may be others. On monday Oct 19th. we will walk the Mill Bay waterfront.Meet at the same time at the same place. For monday the 26th. there is a suggestion for walking the Trans Canada Trail in Glenora.   VM

Nine of us walked about 8 to 9 Kms today from the Legion through the Shawnigan School grounds and back, stopping for coffee at Shawnigan Coffee House on the way back.  The weather, as usual, was perfect.  Another great outing.

From the Legion (bottom right) we went past the Old Hall (1), then up and to the left counter-clockwise as shown by the blue trace.

Looks like demolition of the old hall is about to begin.

Some fancy scroll work - looks like it is being put aside for future use.

Looking across the lake from the railway tracks.

A tangled relationship.

Mushrooms or Toadstools?

Part of the playing field area.

The new Ice Rink.

Always lots of colour around the school grounds.

Including Mother Natures contributions.
Is this a stand-off or are they just
ignoring each others' presence??

A backward glance as the walkers leave the school.

Eight walkers went to see the Cyclamen in the Cherry Point Marina area. This wild species of the Cyclamen is quite prolific this year and covers many areas. We found them near roadsides, in fields, and in yards. Thank you to our drivers. Welcome back from recovery time, Claudia. Next monday Oct 5th we will be in Chemainus and walk through Echo Heights. Lunch will be at the Saltair Pub.
Meet at the Legion at 10 am.  VM

Men's Walking Group

The following is my version of a great walk on the Esquimalt-Victoria waterfront today.  So many photo opportunities - here are some of them.  Weather and company, as always, were great.  -  DeNNis.

Walked from West Bay Marina (top left) along the waterfront promenade, named "Westsong Way", to and across the Blue Bridge.  Did a small jog up a side street to view the bridge construction from the other side, then back to West Bay along the same route where we enjoyed a well deserved lunch.

The water was dead calm - great mirror.

One of many beautiful views.

Little show-off  -  Right alongside the walkway  -
not afraid of  walkers passing by.  One of three that
otter know better.

Deiter got a good shot at the geese.

Busy, busy harbour.

Busy, busy, busy harbour.

Across the Blue Bridge and then back we go.

"Hybrid Cityscape" -  Look out for the boat!!

Enjoying the weather and the views.

Two of the three little rascals back down by the water on
our return trip.  Couldn't catch all three in one shot.

Some poppies growing on the bank.

Lunch at GABY'S SEASIDE RESTAURANT on our return to West Bay Marina.
