Men's walking group

Hi all Our walking group had a great outing in Naniamo today. 8 of use left the Legion at 8:40 {thinking of our walker Dieter sitting on a beach in Mexico with a Margerieta in his hand} ha. It was cool this morning. We arrived at Westwood Lake at 9:45 to start our 6k walk around it, it is well groomed and mostly level with a small rock bluff on the east side, then to the Jingle Pot pub for lunch. Getting back to the Legion by 2pm. Thanks to the drivers and thanks to DeNN for your pictures and comments. Next week a local walk down Wilkinson Rd. See you all then. Tks

A few photos from todays walk around Westwood Lake in Nanaimo.  Everything turned out great as is usual on our  "walking Mondays".

The map, I think, is self explanatory.
Just getting started - looks like a great trail
Looking towards the west end of the lake from a small dock.
A little ice in a narrow part of the lake near the west end.
Looking downstream from one of a few bridges.
One of 17 or 18 small bridges and wooden walkways in
various places around the lake - all numbered.
Looks like this is a  partially man made lake - many dead trees
and stumps off shore.
A little Holly tree waiting
to be decorated for Christmas.
Very frosty in places.
A jolly looking group of guys.
The view looking west from the rocky bluff.
A lone little tree on the cold, frosty bluff.

Women's Walking Group

Eight walkers went up the big hill, saw some nice, but misty views, then continued on to circle Rat Lake. A great walk and no rain till on the way home. Still some fall colours around, huge interesting trees, and many different types of fungus. For all the years of photographing fungus, I had my first taste of an unknown mushroom. It tasted spicy. (some trust in a walker was needed) Coffee and treats were at Frayne Centre. Thank you Dianne and Marianne for driving on the "miss the pot holes" road. Next monday the 23rd., weather permitting, we will walk at Spectacle Lake. Meeting at the Legion at 10 am.  VM

I guess parking near Timmie's is like bringing an umbrella it prevents rain.It worked today anyway. ha. We did 6 kilometers in dry weather. Good thing we don't walk in the afternoon, 11 of us had coffee at Timmie's. Next week we can try Spectacle Lake. Tks

This is my version of our Mill Springs adventure today.  It didn't rain and the company and coffee were great.  I hope the map and photos work okay.  --  DeNNis.

Parked on Deloume Rd above Tim Hortons ("TH").  The map below gives a better idea of our direction of travel.

Follow the Red arrows as best you can on the Yellow Brick Road.

The Gazebo in Mill Springs.

Nifty pruning.

Always more new buildings in Mill Springs.

Wheelbarrows are out - now they just spray the sand in through a pipe.

The view from the outer edge at Mill Springs.

A little "Leaf Mosaic".

Mother Natures work is never done.

Water well  drilling for another small development.
