Interesting new trail along the Rat Lake power line for the 8 of us to trek the 6Km.  Next week plan is Baldy Mountain. -- Brook

Great day for a walk to Rat Lake --  but a slight change of plan on the way as shown in the map below.  Weather was perfect and coffee at the Shawnigan Coffee House was a great finish.  --  DeNNis.

Parked at the end of Gibbs Place (off of Deloume Rd in the Fern Ridge area).  Up the trail past the water tower to the Bamberton Haul Rd.  Carried on a ways past the Rat Lake trail and followed a logging road up to the Hydro Powerline.

Just in case we couldn't find the power line!

We are not alone - Mom and baby Elk are just ahead of us.

Foxgloves are abundant.

The limb on this tree is

unique.

I took the high road while the rest took the low road.

This Foxglove is just about finished.

 

More wildlife.  These deer were far ahead of us hence the

poor picture quality.

Women's Walking Group

Four ladies walked behind the Legion, down the Bamberton Haul Rd to the Llama farm and back through the woods.  About a 2 hour walk.

They soon had their jackets off.

Men's Walking Group

Interesting 7Km walk for the 9 of us around Mill Springs.  Although Don T. walked over 9Km as he walked from & back to his home in Mill Springs to meet us at the Serious Coffee parking lot.  Next week plan is to trek up Haul Road to Rat Lake. -- Brook

Another good day for a hike.  We explored around Mill Springs today.

The map and photos will show most of what we found.  --  DeNNis.

We parked behind "Serious Coffee" off of Frayne Rd.  Headed  up Benko Rd to a trail above Mill Springs and walked in a convoluted figure-8 around the Mill Springs area.  Hope you can follow

the arrows.

A pleasant canopied pathway takes us down to Gateway Rd

and into Mill Springs.

Some new paths and stairways have

been added.

A new "wheelchair-accessible" - "non-gender" bathroom has

been installed near the Gazebo in Deloume Community Park.

Women's Walking Group  --  Monday, June 6, 2016.

Four ladies walked Kerry Park and then on to Mill Bay Shawnigan Creek.  Beautiful day and a peaceful walk in the woods by the streams.

It was a great day for an 11Km walk around the lakes by 11 YASAG walkers followed by lunch at the Crooked Goose Bistro.  Thanks to Ken, Dennis S. & Denis L. for driving.  Next week plan is a walk from Frayne & Benko Road to see all the new development and trails around Mill Springs. --- Brook

Better late than never - The Men's walk around Beaver and Elk Lake.  Another day of great walking weather.  --   DeNNis.

Parked the cars in Beaver Lake parking lot (near upper right - white print) and walked counter-clockwise around the two lakes.  Photos tell the rest.
