Men's Walking Group

Ten of us made the grueling hike around the Quarry today under the scorching summer sun. Pretty hard to handle but we persevered. Rewarded ourselves with coffee at Subway.

Parked by Burnham Park (bottom right). Overlooked the Quarry at Viewing Area, then took lower path counterclockwise around Quarry and reversed direction to clockwise around upper path. Stopped to check out old Oven. (Shown in wrong location in this map - correct locatiion in photo below)
Had to show this - Google Earth has greatly improved their map images.
Panoramic view from Viewing area.

This may be the one-winged Canada Goose that has been here for 2 or 3 years - only one we encountered.

Dragon Fly in flight.

Thought this might be a Corona Float, but looks like Twisted Lemon.

Looking pretty good considering our tough journey.

Very attractive weeds - have no idea what it is.

Panorama from the opposite side of the Quarry.

The Old Oven - must investigate history.

Men's Walking grp

Our walking group consisted of 12 men walking from the Legion, through Shawnigan Village to the Shawnigan Lake School and behind the school and then back to the Legion. I don't recall the exact distance covered but I think it was between 8 and 9 km. Again we had a great Monday morning for this walk.
Here are some pictures.

The Hart at Shawnigan School

The pond in front of the school.

Some walkers behind the bullrushes.

There is a lot of construction going on right now.

On our way back to the Legion. This is a view of the lake from the hill behind Mason's store.

A huge thistle and a bee.

Our meandering walk from the Legion to the Shawnigan Lake School grounds and back.

Men's Walking Group

The Men's Walking group continues to walk every Monday morning. Even in the heat! We were 10 of us this morning and we covered about 9 km. We made a loop walking the trails behind the Legion, past the Alpaca farm, and a really tough trail back where we had to climb over and under many fallen trees.
We had a surprise visit at the Legion before our walk of three Peacocks.
See pictures below.

Since Dennis is away and not available with his GPS, here is my Backpacker app on my Samsung phone. The blue line is the trail we took. The green button is our start and the red button is our finish. It is possible to mark waypoints as we walk along,

Dieter got pictures of the three Peacocks. The males tail feathers look rather pathetic I think. I quess the two peahens are OK with it though since they are staying with him.

This "avid" photographer got too close and chased them away!

Men's Walking Group

I'm filling in for Dennis, uploading pictures of today's walk. I don't have his GPS so I can't show you where we were but we walked around Rat Lake. I think most YSAGS members know where that is. It was a warm cloudy morning but no rain.
Here are some pictures. These were all taken with my Samsung cell phone.

We saw this little tent hanging in the trees. It is there to catch and count insects.

The group taking a short break.

The water level is very low and the water lilys are in bloom and still very pretty.

Here is a close up view. There were white and yellow flowers.

Hmmm! This is a Men's Walking group?

This is not a good swimming lake.

YSAGS and Shawnigan Lake Celebrates CANADA DAY!

Here's a Great Canada Day to all!

YSAGS members were in the parade!  Thanks Fran and Dianne. And Thanks to our Line Dancers.

Other members were busy all day helping budding carpenters to build bird houses, bird feeders and tool kits.
Here are some pictures.
