Snow!

Hello All,
Next Tuesday, March 1,2011, we will talk about computers.
Herb L. has just added a Link page to our Blog: http://blog.ysag.ca/p/other-links.html You will see a Title: Men's Walking Group. Click on that and it gives information about each walk. If other YSAG Groups want to take advantage of this, we can show them how.
I found an interesting site called Difference Between: http://www.differencebetween.net/
Following are just a few topics it covers:

While Vera C. enjoys the sunshine on her vacation,Vera M. returns from frigid
snowbound Tofino.Oh but what a beautiful place ! A photographers delight !
A huge thanks to Joan for taking the pictures and supplying the text for this blog.
Six enthusiastic walkers watched the downloading of a recycling bin before
setting out on the Kerry Park Trail along the creek behind the Mill Bay
Community Hall.Although relatively short this trail is very scenic, particularily
with the high water levels at this time of the year. After circling the trail we
crossed the bridge over to the Sylvan United Church where we had a look at
their pebbled labyrinth and secluded gazebo. We were careful to close their gate
after ourselves to help keep the deer from dining on their plants and shrubs.
Next monday the 28th. we will do some different walks in the St. Johns Church
area.We will then go on to the Cobblestone Pub for lunch. Meet at the Legion
at 10 am.     V.M.

Xena

Hello All,
This next Tuesday, February 22, 2011 let's each bring about 20 to 30 pictures to share with the group and explain why we, the photographers think they are worth showing. The photos you bring are up to you but preferably they should have been taken within the last 3 or 4 months. Bring them on a memory stick or CD.
Points to consider when we look at them: Composition, subject, position, technique, clarity, exposure, etc.
I will bring some tutorial stuff I found on the internet. (I am working on it now)

Tomorrow we will talk about computer programs.

PURCHASING ON LINE

I don't know how many of you have purchased and paid for items
online
There are different ways to do it.
You can use your credit card. Pay
Pal
is very popular. You need to sign up for this and transfer money
into that account, usually using your credit card. PayPal charges about 3% of
the puchase price. Many banks and the credit union offers
Hyperwallet. Again you need to sign up for this. Another way is
to use Interac to transfer money from your account directly
into the vendor's account. I don't buy merchandise a lot over the internet, but
I have used each of these services and have had no problems. I will go over some
of the details and the pros and cons of each.

As time permits: THE INS AND OUTS OF
EBOOKS

If you are a reader, you will have heard of ebooks. Simply,
this feature let's you read your books on your computer, iPad, Kindle or other
tablets. There are many sites that allow you to download books for free(Older
non copywrited titles) or purchase new books online to download to your ebook
program. A paperback book that might cost around $30 will be available for about
$10 by ebook.
Just recently public libraries have started ebook loan
programs. You need to sign up with your library card, no fees. This can all be
done online. The ebook loans are good for 3 weeks and will automatically
expire(no late fee penaltys).
We will get into more details if you are
interested.

By the way: if you go here you can follow the Kinsel Trestle
progress. http://www.earthcam.com/clients/britishcolumbia/KinsolTrestle/
I found it very slow to load but eventually it came up. The deck and guard rails
are there about halfway.

Another monday with excellent walking weather. We were in a nice area of
homes which all seemed to have a " No To Garbage Dump " sign in their
driveways. We then went on to see the proposed Eco Depot which Claudia
checked out more closely.I spotted an eagle family which seemed to be very
busy.Next monday the 14 th.,which is Valentines Day,we will walk the
Mill Springs area.Meet at the Legion at 10 am.       V.M.

Men's Walking Group

Hello,
This Blogging thing is not at all clear to me sometimes! I was going to add comments to the photos you see in the post below this, but it somehow just didn't want to let me do it.
I wanted to say that the first picture shows the walkers working hard to get the stage ready for the skits to be presented at the Chinese Pot Luck dinner to be held this Tuesday(tomorrow).
This morning on our walk we came across this beauty shown in picture #2. He appropriately placed #2 in a beauty pageant.
We could not make out the name of the ship anchored across the bay, so I zoomed my camera on it and the picture is lousy but the name is readable.
