Men's Walking Group

Another beautiful day for our last walk in 2017 and lunch at the Fox & Hounds Pub.  This time up to Ladysmith and then a 6Km stroll down through Ladysmith Marina and Transfer Beach Park area.  Too many photos but these are the highlights.  --  DeNNis.

Parked conveniently close to the Fox & Hounds pub (center) and did a clockwise loop crossing the highway at the north end of town and then back via Ladysmith Marina and Transfer Beach Park.

Christmas Shopping at the Legion before getting underway.

Ladysmith lighting is all up.

"Diamond Rail Switch" operated to allow log trains to cross
over the E&N rail line.

Antique Fordson tractor.

A couple of ups and downs along the trails.

Along the old railbed.  Notice the sun shining through
the trees.

Signs of artistic interest.

An antique Boom boat.

Panoramic view of Ladysmith Marina.

Reflections.

A couple of restoration heritage boats.

Antique radio equipment.

Looking out from Transfer Beach.

Enjoying the sunshine and scenery at Transfer Beach.

We weren't the only visitors.

Shadow people heading up the road.

Under the highway - there is light at the end of the tunnel.

A lonely California Poppy all by itself.

Back where we started in time for a pub lunch.

In case we have to
call a cab.

A cool (0 to -1 deg C), crispy morning for a stroll around the paths bordering Mill Springs.

Hopefully the map and pics tell the story.  --  DeNNis.

Parked on Deloume Rd behind Tim Hortons.  Did a counter-clockwise loop taking a trail just below the Mill Bay Water Office and following various trails bordering the Mill Springs area as shown in the photos below.

You can see the MB Water Office from where we turned off
Deloume Rd.

Natures Art.  Fungi on the
log piece beside the trail.

Pretty tough slogging up some of these hills.

Some of these trails run right beside the properties.

If you look closely that is a sitting tree.  But no one cared to sit.

Some trails are quite secluded.  Looking back down this trail
you can see some of the Mill Springs housing as shown in
the next photo.

Houses not obvious in above picture.

This tree took the shape of a snake.

There is quite a steep gulley alongside this trail.

Lots of large ferns down there.

Always interesting to see the carvings outside this home.

The view from the latest phase of Mill Springs.

Above the above street is the Mill Springs Water Tower.

You could call these Frozen Puddle Art.

Near the water tower - for those who can't afford to live in
Mill Springs.

Heading down the trail from the water tower.

The ducks don't mind the cool temperatures.

Christmas is in the air.

Guess what comes next.

Computer/Photography Group

Hi All,
Here are 3 images of the new computer purchased by the New Horizon Grant.
As you can see it is an ASUS with an AMD cpu and 1 TB hard drive. So far it is working great.

Great 8Km walk for the 9 of us.  A pretty cool morning but, again, NO RAIN.  Down to the Bamberton Haul Road from behind the Legion which we have not done in some time.  Map and photos below.  --  DeNNis.

Started at the Legion (about 2/3 down near the right of map) and did a counter-clockwise loop.  Roads and locations are marked.

Frozen water droplets on the ends of the twigs look like small jewels.

Partially clear sky with a bit of mist in the distance.

The horses were happy to see us.

There is that mist.

Lots of water everywhere.

Busybee daycare is still there.  Sign has been refurbished a bit.

On Owl Rd.  Remnants of Hallowe'en?

Lots of bicycles of and for all shapes and sizes.

Coffee coming up soon.

Church for sale.  The price is right if you can afford to move it.

At the Shawnigan Lake weir we found some CVRD staff.

Lots of water in Shawnigan Creek.

William Rivers Community Park overflowing.

Reflections.

Coffee time before we head back to the Legion.

Somebodys bike ended up in the flower pot.

Artwork across the street.

Shawnigan Fire Hall.
